As the new year kicks off, we’re feeling energized and grateful for the opportunities ahead — and what better way to start 2026 than by spotlighting the people who help keep our team thriving? Today, we’re excited to share a conversation with our Business and People Operations manager Deborah Moore, the friendly voice behind onboarding, team support, and the heart of our company culture. Whether you’re part of our hosting family or just getting to know us, this interview is a great look at what makes our workplace feel like home — and what’s in store for the year ahead. Thank you for checking out our Blog!!
Tasha- “Okay. Uh, well, thank you so much for joining me, uh, for this interview. First off, can you tell us a little about yourself, your name, your role at the company, and how long you have been with us?”
Deborah- “Okay. I started out as HR manager back in May of 2022. Since then, they have changed my title. I’m now the Business and People Operations Manager. The reason being is I am doing a lot now with Finance, which I was not doing previously in my roles so we kindah decided that the title should change a little bit so that’s my new title.”
Tasha- “Oh, nice. Well …I didn’t know that. That’s cool.”
Deborah- “Yeah, so I deal with people, which I love the most, but at the same time, I help finance out, you know, with banking, deposits, and mail. Anything to do with the business operations”
Tasha “Got it. Okay, and, tell us a little about yourself growing up.”
Deborah- “Growing up, okay. Um, I grew up in California. About two miles from Disneyland. Um, there was nothing different than someone here in Oklahoma that goes to the movie on Saturday night, as a teenager we went to Disneyland. ”
Tasha- “Wow!
Deborah- “So we got dropped off, and fun we had. And, um, so I grew up in California. I was a baton twirler from the time I was, like, five until college, so- But as far as growing up, I grew up in California.”
Tasha – “Well, thank you for that. That explains a lot of your bubbly and sweet attitude. Okay, well, can you describe yourself to someone first meeting you?”
Deborah- “First meeting me, um, I’ve heard two different stories, actually. Some people tell me that, and this is mainly business people, like, for instance, my first HR job we hired a receptionist, or maybe she was admin, and I thought I was a very friendly person, but she told me later on when we became friends that she felt very intimidated by me. She thought I was snooty …snobby. I was like “really” because I feel like I’m friendly to begin with but she said “No. You just thought you were all that and weren’t very friendly.” I was like “I am so sorry!” Which I was surprised. But we ended up being really good friends. We still are 20 years later. I feel like when someone meets me, I hope that the think that I am approachable and friendly.”
Tasha – “Yeah, I definitely think you are. I didn’t get that vibe. … you must have woke up on the right side of the bed, [chuckles] uh, on the day I met you.”
Deborah- “Well, I was probably, I was a lot younger back then … so maybe that’s why. I don’t know. But yeah, I was surprised, too, but- So two different versions. Most people think I’m approachable and, and friendly, yes.”
Tasha- “All right, well, let me ask you this, what’s one value you think is especially important in our company culture?”
Deborah – “Integrity and honesty.”
Tasha- “Mm, I have to agree there, for sure. Thank you for mentioning that.”
Deborah- “I know the reason why I got into HR, and you’re probably gonna ask me that. I’m probably jumping ahead of you, Tasha. Sorry. [laughing]”
Tasha – “No, no. I mean, hey, I was just going to ask, you know, why you chose HR and that line of work, you know, having to deal with people and everything like that?”
Deborah- “Um, I would say mainly because I knew I wasn’t a numbers person, which I guess I should be, ’cause I do payroll. Laugh out loud. But no, I just really care a lot about people, I mean, whether it’s work, friends, family. So it’s a little rewarding. A lot of people think that HR is you know more like you know, power or Terminating people. I don’t look at it that way. I didn’t realize till after I got involved in the position, or the role, or the business, that there is a lot of that. A lot of terminating and those sort of things. I did not look at it that way when I first got into it. Mainly because I care about people and its kindah like Human resources. I am there to be supportive and resource for the employees. You know advocate for them. A lot of people think of HR in a different view which unfortunately I think there are a lot of HR managers that probably take that power. I take value in that I don’t , I don’t look at it that way and that’s not what I am about.”
Tasha- “Got it…. um, well, let me ask you this: What’s one thing that happens behind the scenes, in HR that maybe employees might not even realize?”
Deborah – “What they don’t realize? Um, I think back to what I just said, a lot of times the perception is, you know, HR is just there to fire, cause trouble, um, not be nice. Which in my perspective I think that’s not true for me. So behind the scenes I am not really looking to try and get someone terminated. Let’s say a director, not necessarily here at Hostek of Miss Group, but let’s say a director came to me and said “hey” .. I am going to use you as an example Tasha [laugh]”
Tasha “Yeah, go ahead.”
Deborah – ” We need to get rid of Tasha. She’s not pulling her weight. She did this, she did that.” I’m never one to jump the gun and say, “Hey, you’re right. Let’s get rid of her. Let’s find someone else.” That’s not the solution. The solution to me is we hired this person for a reason. Obviously we had faith in them at one time, so lets try to figure out how to keep them and keep our retention down for one, and number 2, if we hired this person. they obviously had the skills so let’s figure out what’s going on and if we can help them. Sometimes we can’t. We do all we can. Someone told me once in Hr “ Hey if you go home at night and you lay your head down on a pillow, you have to know you tried everything you could for that employee. And if you couldn’t save their job, then that’s all you could do.” But at the same time, that’s number one to me. So I don’t think a lot of people see that in the background. They think of HR… and I could be wrong, they think of HR as we just wanna get rid of people and move on and in my perspective that’s not true.”
Tasha- “That’s actually really, uh, insightful. I’ve never really thought about it like that. You know, you don’t want to jump the gun because you’re right, you did hire this person for a reason. You noticed something and, you know, just kind of bringing… Taking a step back and looking at the full picture, I think is a wonderful thing to do. It has probably.. That type of mentality has probably save alot of valuable employees from being let go maybe prematurely after maybe a little bit of a nudge of encouragement and just identifying what exactly needs to be done to get them back to satisfactory levels. So that’s wonderful.”
Deborah- “Yeah.”
Tasha – “All right, well, let’s have a moment that is little bit more of a light note. “
Deborah- “Okay. [laughs]”
Tasha – “So let me ask you, um, what’s something you’re genuinely passionate about outside of work?”
Deborah- “ Outside of work, I would say family, friends. I have a pretty good circle of friends and they’re very important to me. And so, it’s something that I… My sister says, “how do you keep up with it?” Because, you know, I reach out to them, like during the snowstorm we just had, you know, I reach out to my elderly friends. I say elderly, older than me, like, you know, they live by themselves or, you know, so my friends and family are very important. I would say on the fun side, which that’s fun, but on the fun side, I love the beach, which I think everybody knows. Any kind of water sport I love. So, just spending time with family and friends and being on the water.”
Tasha- “Got it. Yeah, the water. I’m a water baby-”
Deborah- “I know.”
Tasha- “… right there with you.”
Deborah- “I’m very jealous of you, Tasha, being in Florida.”
Tasha- “I know. I’ve actually looked up to see, because I know you live over in Oklahoma. I’ve looked up to see what kind of water recreation you guys have. And it’s always funny to me because I realize just how much different water type options we have in Florida versus other states. I totally feel you there with the water. Do you have any pets that keep your attention or encourage you along the workday?”
Deborah – “Well, um, well, sort of, kind of. I had.. They passed away. I had Emmy and Jack. They were two very adorable Bichons. I don’t know if you know what those are.”
Tasha- “Like Bichon Frise?”
Deborah- “Yes.”
Tasha- “ Yes, I do.”
Deborah- “Yes. My daughter had those, and when she moved to college, I took them on, and at the time I wasn’t too happy about it, cause I traveled a lot in my job and didn’t have time for it. And, oh, my gosh, they ended up being my best, best, best buddies. So, they passed away about a year ago. That was hard.”
Tasha- “I’m so sorry to hear that.”
Deborah- “Thank you. Um, my husband of five years, and you met Mike, when we got together dating, he got Bailey. Bailey is a black lab. I’ve never had a big dog before, so at the beginning it was very difficult for me. But so now that Emmy and Jack are gone, um, Bailey’s kind of been my new friend. My husband works in the office, so it’s just her and I here at the lake, um, all day long. So, we’ve made friends.”
Tasha- “Awesome. Yeah, I have a pet myself at home, and I know she’s always looking up at me like, why are you staring at that screen all day? Come hang out with me.”
Deborah- “What kind of dog is she? I’m sure you told me.”
Tasha- “I have a pit bull. She’s a gray pit bull. Her name is Nova. All right, so here we go. We’re gonna do the quick-fire round. This is where you answer with something short, sweet, and simple. Okay? Coffee or tea?
Deborah- “… Coffee or tea? Uh, coffee.”
Tasha- “Okay. Morning person or night owl?”
Deborah- “Uh, since…..can I say both?”
Tasha- “Yes, you can say both.”
Deborah- “Well, I used to be a night owl, 100%. Um, but now I’ve taken on this role at Mist Group where I start at 6:30 in the morning, so I’m usually up at 5:45. Um, but I- so I’m still a night owl, too.”
Tasha- “There you go. You know, I have to say that I went so hard on the night owl thing that I’m kind of turning into a morning person, but very early morning, not like normal early.”
Deborah- “Right.”
Tasha- “All right, let’s see. What’s your go-to comfort food?”
Deborah- “Uh, Taco Bueno.”
Tasha- “Taco Bueno! We don’t have that here in Florida, so I’m not familiar with that. David said that I need to try it, so now that you’ve said it, it must be true.”
Deborah- “Yeah, Taco Bueno. I try to stay away from… And, you know, I live out here at the lake,so I don’t have the opportunity to do that very often. But I have to go pick up the mail, you know, in Tulsa, and I haven’t done it in a long time, but that’s my go-to.”
Tasha- “Yep. All right, now lastly, do you have anything you want to say directly to our customers that have chose our team to guide them in their web hosting journey?”
Deborah- “ let’s see. I guess what I would say is we have, and I’m not just saying this because I’m getting interviewed, but just because I have worked with the team including yourself for the last 3 or 4 years and I would say we have a great team. We have a very dedicated ..umm.. Loyal, I guess is the main word that I am looking for. Loyal Team. I would say you’re in great hands with our team. If they don’t know something they will find it out for you and as far as I know everybody is very professional and very respectful.”
Tasha. – “Awesome. Well, thank you so much for joining me Deb. I am sure that the Hostek family has a little bit more information on another face behind the veil. You have a wonderful rest of your day”
